2001 T&C Power Window problem

Hi all, new to the forum and desperately seeking help from the apparent vast array of knowledge here.

I am starting to have issues with the driver side power window (or switch). In the first down position it will open to my desired position and it will close normally. If I activate the switch to the second position to send the window all the way down, it will not immediately go up with the switch. I usually have to play with it for a while and sometimes turn the car off for a short period of time. I eventually can get it to go up, UNTIL TODAY!! It is stuck down and I am looking for any ideas. I have not pulled the switch to do electrical testing, but I am thinking that's the problem.

I am also open to suggestions if anyone has them, thanks in advance for your help.

Re: 2001 T&C Power Window problem

I had some similar problems with my 1996 and eventually had to buy a new motor. Is a strange part when you get it though it was fairly easy to replace. Motor is attached to a bracket. Usually the chrysler dealer parts guy can show you the schematic of how it is attached. Was less expensive to do it myself than have chrysler do it. I don't know if they make after market part for the whole mechanism.

Re: 2001 T&C Power Window problem

I have done window motors on both sides of our 2001 Gr Caravan. They are not bad, but first I would test to make sure the switch is working properly. The motor replacement isn't bad, you can just by a new motor. If I remember right they really look like they were not meant to just replace the motor, rather the entire assembly. But you can just buy the motor and replace it. Our acted erratically before finally failing.

may just be a little black box. i used to have an 01. i always used the express down feature, well it wouldnt go up one day so stopped by dealer. they replaced a little black box that had a relay in it which controlled the express down feature.

Thanks for the replys and ideas. I have to do a final diagnosis and some more electrical testing. I will focus on the motor.

OK, problem solved!

I did more testing and probing and decided to replace the motor, that did the trick. Thanks all for the replys.

Yes, I replaced the motor. It was $80 at Checker auto parts and a 20 min job, very simple.

Symptoms were the window would go down, but not up. It almost seemed as though it was a one way motor. My diagnostic guess was that the switch was sending power where it should have been going so it it must be the motor.

Re: 2001 T&C Power Window problem

Only a torx bit. The below is from memory and I may have missed something.

Remove screw covers and screws from handle and lever.
Remove screw at bottom of door panel.
Carefully pry the door panel off.

Remove electrical connecters for switch, lock and courtesy light.
Remove the door latch connection at the lever.
Remove panel.
Unpeel the rubber sound deadener from the door.
Remove three torx screws on the motor and electrical connection.

Unbend the three tabs on the metal cover (which is the attachment point of the regulator cable/assembly) and remove. Pop the attachment (regulator) off the motor.

Replace with new motor and carefully bend the tabs back around the motor housing.

Reverse the above disassembly.

It is pretty much a "Oh, I see how that works!" procedure. I wouldn't see a need for manual for this one.
