Re: 99 ford escort a/c problem
i have a 1999 escort lx sedan. had the common a/c problem. searching around ,mostly this forum i discovered the "cold solder" problem. == below your air filter container is the location of the ccrm=constant control relay module(black box). first you need to drill the rivets to get into it.in it there,s a relay that is messed up laying on the little computer looking board. i bought the exact same relay at radio shack for about $3. and a friend soldered it in there for me. used tie-wraps to secure the ccrm back together. then the a/c works perfect. try searching this forum for more info and if i find my radio shack part # i,ll pass it on.

Re: 99 ford escort a/c problem
BTW =- the dealer does not sell the relay. they only sell the whole ccrm box for a few hundred $$.

Re: 99 ford escort a/c problem
Welcome to AF!!
As jamesmetairie says the CCRM is bad and needs repaired. Search the forum for threads concerning the repair. It is not hard to do and takes longer to get it out of the car and drill out the rivets than it does to fix the bad spot with a little soldier and an iron. I repaired mine and it works just fine. Fixed it two years ago. If you can't find the information post again and we will help you out. |

Re: 99 ford escort a/c problem
Could be a bad cycle switch. I believe it is located on top of the dryer.

Re: 99 ford escort a/c problem
It could be the low pressure switch, but I would be looking at the CCRM.

Re: 99 ford escort a/c problem
If one were to jump at the connector to the low pressure/clutch cycling switch with the ac switched on inside, and it comes on, it may be the switch. The low side pressure needs to be 45 psi or higher before the switch will allow the compressor clutch on. It should be plenty high when off and hot out for it to be above 45 psi. If not, it won't work. If jumping doesn't work, you're looking at the ccrm. I suppose if you are smart enough, you may be able to wire in a generic relay in place of the one in the ccrm. Does the fan come on when you turn on the ac, but just not the clutch?
