Unhappy 97 Ford Eccort Need Help...Please

I was driving home with the blower on in the car as the air doesn't work. The car shut off suddenly. I tried to restart but the car only turned, no ignition. I checked for gas, pump is working. I checked for spark, there is spark. I'm dumbfounded....Help!!!! We are stuck

Sounds like the timing belt broke.

Sorry but I think MightyMoose is right. If you weren't getting fuel I'd say the inertia switch but I guess it's the belt. Let us know.

Re: 97 ford eccort

How did you check the belt?
Are you sure you did not check the accessory belt? THe timing belt is underneath a cover and is not visually inspected without taking some things apart.

Have someone look through the engine oil opening on top the engine and watch to see if the valves are moving when you crank the engine. No movement = broken belt.

There really isn't any other good reason why your car would die like that while driving.

Re: 97 ford eccort

95 through 97's have had a problem of the timing ring separating from the crankshaft pulley. They are pressed together. If it has separated your timing will be off enough for it not to run. Look down there. If it has separated the accessory belt will be off at an angle.
