The new 3 cylinder! It looks good but is it better than a rusty old metro? They start at $11,500.00 and go up to nearly $17,000.00. Click the above link and go down to the bottom of the page and check out the gas mileage. You would think that they could do better than that!

The 2007 EPA numbers (40/45) are more believable, as not everyone drives with a lead foot.
We don't get the diesel, so we're not seeing the full MPG potential of this chassis. As far as crash safety goes, I would rather be in a Smart than my 2-dr Metro. But I don't have $11k to spend either.

Many people looking at Smart cars don't realize that these vehicles require (from the manufacturer's recommendation,) premium fuel. That should also be figured into cost of driving when looking at fuel economy.

I noticed that too. I'll stick with my 1.3 that gets 43mpg. I paid $400 for it with a blown head gasket. I did the gasket my self and hav e$650 into it. It purrs like kitty

I'm looking for a newer metro 2dr 5 spd; a 1995 or newer. Preferably with a blown head gasket

Produce more Metros? What an idea all the millions already spent in designing, engineering, tooling, producing, refining the design are water under the bridge, just pure profits left from a world hungry for fuel efficient cars. VW brought back the beetle with good success. Maybe Suzuki is just packed with lazy MBAs who would rather spend their time figuring out how to spend their million dollar bonuses that better their company, enrich the stockholders and give us something that we would enjoy and appreciate. Smart cars and Nano are a mediocre try they look funky, but far better then Hypebrids.

In the USA, all the stringent safety features required by federal law would make the Metro weigh well over 3000 lbs (like the Aveo) and the little 55 HP engine would not be able to handle it.

I always kind of wondered about the Aveo...it looks like such a small car, and for it to only get around 30 mpg seems a little silly.

I know rite i bought a 97 metro lsi for a hundred and had 2 put a moter in it now i have 600$ in2 and it runs like a champ

That's why it is called a Smart Car. It knows better than to let you put 8 foot lumber in it. But I still like my 93 vert.
