Passlock

My Daugther is driving a 2001 Alero and the last two weeks we have had to do the reprogram for the passlock to get the car started.
She asked me will the car die on her while she is driving it if the passlock acts up again?
So will the passlock shut the car down while its running?
Thanks

Re: Passlock

I don't think the passlock will affect her driving. The light will come on but the car should continue to drive just fine. I do notice though when mine comes on while driving it will not start when I shut it off.

Re: Passlock

Passlock will not shut the car off. If there is a problem with Passlock while the car is running, the computer will interpret the condition as a Passlock fault, not a theft attempt. The Security light will come on, but the engine will continue to run.
However, after shutting the car off, it might not start again.
There is a way to bypass Passlock completely, and disable it so it never interferes again.
This link will tell you how: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...asslock+bypass

Re: Passlock

Park on a level surface and block the wheels, then put the gear shift in 1. Shut off the car. Remove the shift knob by prying out the clip located on the front, about halfway down.
Pry up the plastic trim piece around the shifter. This piece includes the tray and cupholder. Unplug the light, and set the piece aside. Pry out the plastic around the radio. Remove the radio by unscrewing the four (I think) screws, and pull it out. You do not have to unplug it.
Look toward the steering wheel, and you will see some wires (probably wrapped in black tape) coming from the ignition switch. Pull them toward you so you will have room to work. They won't come very far, but it's enough. Unwrap them, and find the wires referred to in the link above.
The whole process takes about an hour the first time you do it.
Look on oldsmobileforum.com under Alero, "A fix for Passlock problems" for more info.
Hope this helps you!
