help!! if I touch my breaks or blinkers while in drive the thing dies....

well that's the deal. As I'm driving down the road my 96 4.3 jimmy dies on me if I touch the breaks or blinkers. It does not happen every time and I can pull over and the once put in P or N the vehicle will start back up and go. The break lights don't work at all but the tail lights and backup lights r all good as well as the running and head lights. I also noticed my hazard lights don't work and if the button for the hazards is in the on position, the blinkers don't work at all. My bro in law suggested I check the relay under the break pedal. and I checked all fuses IN THE CAB but not under the hood as I have no idea how to tell weather they are blown. Any one have any insights?
