This is a clip of my 08 Avenger 2.4L PZEV engine noise.
Sounds like marbles rolling around in there for a few seconds till it goes away. Dodge says this is normal.
This would have never gotten past the engineers at Honda or be considered normal.

I agree, that sounds too noisy to be normal. However I can't tell what the noise is. Some of the old gm 2.5s sounded like that and on those is was usually timing gear noise. But I don't think your engine has gears. more likely a timing belt or chain.

Dodge says it is air being dumped into the exhaust manifold from the closed looped emmissions system. Its only on the 2.4L PZEV engine. There is a silver round check valve positioned to the rear of the engine into the exhaust man. and a air pump connected to it. I think it is a horrible design and wouldnt have bought the PZEV engine if i new about it. It only does it on a cold start but still, iits loud enough for the neighbor to walk over and say..."Dude whats up with your new car, thats not a good sound".

Like I said I find it a real shocker that the engineers at Dodge didnt change that and let it pass. that says alot about their integrity to me.

hey just a heads up where you cap is for you water with it being plastic a friend of mine that is a master tech says a lot of people being them in b/c of a water leak and the plastic is creaked. but yea, i would go to a few places and test other avengers just like yours and see if they do it. b/c that does not sound right at all. even it its an ext valve it shouldn't sound like that. unless dodge is getting sloppy
