External Tranny Cooler ???

95 3/4 Ton 454. In another post it was strongly suggested that I get an external transmission cooler. My question is, do you use the external cooler with the internal cooler or just the external cooler. If you do use them both, does the fluid go through the radiator first and then through the external cooler or through the external first then through the radiator? Which line, top or bottom is the feed line?

I believe the transmission fluid goes into the radiator thru the bottom line then comes out of the radiator the top line then you will hook up your trans cooler to that top radiator fitting then the transcooler other line will go back to the transmission thru the bottom line which goes to the pan ...this trans cooler then is in series with the radiator internal cooler....

this then will reduce transmission and engine temps to a level where the thermostat can control the temperature to a normal range...

when you buy cooler this will be expained and it should have fittings and diagram...buy a big one just in case....better too big than too small

Re: External Tranny Cooler ???

You do not want to bypass the cooler in the radiator. It helps bring the tranny fluid up to operating temp when your not pulling or in cold temps plus its more cooling area when you need it.
