'99 Yukon - bad fuel pump or dirty filter?
Hello!
Okay, here's my problem: just bought a '99 Yukon SLT last Tuesday (5.7L engine) and the thing has run beautifully up until last night. Went out at lunch, and the truck wouldn't start, could not hear the fuel pump engage. This morning a buddy of mine crawled under the truck and beat on the fuel tank, and lo and behold the pump engaged. Truck started up and I drove home. Now, after consulting a couple of mechanics, a guy who used to work for GM, and the local GMC dealer, I'm being told one of two things: either the pump is bad or sediment may have collected in the filter in the tank, which causes the pump to stop in order to keep it from burning up. The dealer I bought the truck from kept the gas tank darn near empty, could this have caused it too? Any help is appreciated since I want to be certain I'm not just throwing $300 away. Thanks! |

Welcome to AF. Replace the pump, in tank filter and inline filter.

Stick with a Delphi pump also. One place is your nearest Carquest parts store. If you want to know,Carquest did switch to Delphi and their pumps last longer.General rule is you do not go below a quarter tank burning up the fuel pump.

Thanks! We ended up taking it back to the dealer, and they got it fixed this morning for us at no cost. Working third shift, that actually worked out best for both the hubby and myself.
