Congratulations !!!

Hi,

I'm researching a new book and I've learned more about the F1 in the two hours I've been here than in a couple of weeks hitting the books and surfing the net.

Well done to all contributors, this place is AWSOME!!

Cheers

Chris

Re: Congratulations !!!

We do try . What's the book about specifically, and can we get a pre-publication draft?

Re: Congratulations !!!

It's a super profile for a Spanish/Portugese publisher, aimed at model engineers, that is guys who make super detailed and large scale models (were not talking "Airfix" here!). I'm working with a dutch model maker who's building a one-third scale model to accompany the book for, we assume, an actual F1 owner. (we're not sure as it was commissioned via an agent). We've got a couple of irons in the fire through contacts to detail photopgraph/measure an F1. As you probably know most owners are quite shy, so it's fingers crossed.

As for a draft copy, it might be better to wait while I've actually written something!!!

Re: Congratulations !!!

If it's anything like these models below, it's gotta be good!! Any idea on the possible F1 owner? nationality, partial name etc?

Any additional questions you may have feel free to ask, I am sure between us all on here we can answer most!

Re: Congratulations !!!

I have no idea.

I'm not being "coy" or anything, we haven't been told a thing. we might get a clue when we get the specification, all I know at the moment is that it's a road car and it's got corrado mirrors! I suppose when we get the colour, that'll be a clue.
Other questions?

I've got hundreds, but I'll save everyone some time by searching first, I know how annoying it can be for "regulars" to read the same questions over and over again.

Having said that, there is one thing that I need help with at the moment and that's the parts from other cars used on the F1. I need to put the micrometer over them.

I've got a set of corrado mirrors, a Vauxhall Astra mirror position switch, a Bova rear light (were the indicators the same size as the stop/tail lights?)

I think the column switches are BMW (3 series?) as are the electric window switches.

Can anyone confirm or point me in the direction of any other parts, that I might be able to get?

Thanks

Chris

Re: Congratulations !!!

Calling Le Man

For now, I can only add Hazard Warning push switch & Rear Fog Light push switch - Vauxhall Astra mark 2; Audi A4 S4 A6 rear door light switch used as engine light switch in the engine bay

Re: Congratulations !!!

Here's a wee question, slightly off subject, the L'Ueno Clinic Large Scale model shown doesn't have the additional lights on the bonnet. The only model I've seen of that is the 1/43rd IXO one. Any reason why?

Re: Congratulations !!!

Weren't the lights on the bonnet for the race during the small hours of the night? I believe they replaced the bonnet to the one you see there for extra lightness during the daylight hours of the 24h race as there was no need for the heavier lights then

Thanks, Hurst. I was unaware of that. I just assumed that for the likes of Minichamps, the costs of retooling one car in a, what now, 10+ '95 GTR 1/43rd range (less in 1/18th I reckon) was maybe prohibitive, so failed to include them. But when I saw the scratch-built F1 in the McLaren 'showroom' (Do we know who made it? Amalgam, perhaps?) I was curious of their exclusion. That's wrapped that mystery up for me!

Oh yes? Who's the "Dutch Model Maker"? Living, as I do, here in Holland, I know most of them and would be curious to which one you've chosen.

I write books mate, I don't have the money/time/inclination/skill to build a F1 replica.

I came across that so called "replica" whilst on the same web crawl that turned this place up. Locost builders is my "home" forum I simply shared it's grotesqueness (is that a real word?) with my mates. Or are you suggesting that the car in the PDF is mine?

I'm a little confused as to your motives, but I don't tell lies. Feel free not to contribute, that is your perogative, but I'd hate to lose this place as a resource for my new book because of your incorrect assumption.

I see that you're on some sort of crusade to discredit me and so I will bow out gracefully, which is a shame. Perhaps you should join Locostbuilders, it's everything that this place isn't. Warm, welcoming, inclusive and friendly, outsiders are welcomed and become friends. This forum is a wonderful resource but some posters need to learn some manners, I feel sorry for the genuine people who post here, they are tarred with the same brush as you and your macho chest-beating.

Farewell

Chris
