Speaker question
I'm getting ready to swap out the factory 5.25's in the front doors on a 2002 GP GT. I have the factory tweeters as well. What I'm wondering is if I just wire the factory tweeters into the aftermarket just like they are wired into the factory or do I need to put a high pass crossover on the positive lead going to the tweeter? I'm not sure if there's something I don't know about on the factory speaker that I'm not seeing. Normally the tweeters would just be spliced into the wires going into the 5.25's but I didn't know if that was okay for the factory tweeters.

If you are still using the factory tweeter there should be a capacitor already installed to the tweeter, in the factory harness. It is a round cylinder that has a wire coming out at each end.

There doesn't seem to be a capacitor that I know of in the wiring harness. I looked at it yesterday when I was doing some work on my regulator for the window. There are the positive and negative that lead from the door to the factory 5.25 in the door. Then there are two wires that lead from the factory tweeter and clip into the 5.25. There is nothing between the two speakers except for the wires. That's why I was figuring I would need to put a high pass crossover after installing an aftermarket 5.25 in the door. I'm thinking there is something in it that alters the signal before going to the tweeter.

If the tweeter does not have the capacitor. Go to partsexpress, they will have what is needed. Do not connect the tweeter until the capacitor has been installed. The bass frequencies will cause the tweeter to fry. The capacitor is non-polarized variety. The capacitor is installed to the + terminal of the tweeter.
