steering colum 1996 Riviera

Does anyone know the last step of removing the entire steering column from the base at the firewall? I have evertything apart but the column will not come out of the boot. Is there a pin to remove or a special trick or tool needed? Please help!!! I cannot drive my car thanks to car thieves and wont be able to until I can renove the the column and install the new one I picked up at the yard. Thank you in advance.
