Gabriel Shocks

I'm at about 59K and am looking at some shocks from Gabriel. Have you guys heard of this brand? Any opinions?

Thanks

Re: Gabriel Shocks

Hi Carl..
I still have my OEM shocks in there but I'm watching what everyone else is doing.. Gabriel is popular, and has a good reputation but everyone wanting to keep their Town Car ride is sticking to the OEM shocks.

Some hot rodders are looking for a stiffer ride and look for those properties in a new shock.

It's totally up to you, but you need to decide how you like to ride. I like mine as soft as a babies rear end... I get enough bumps and jolts in my daily commuter.

Re: Gabriel Shocks

I have an 2003 TC and I put Gabriel's in the rear and they lasted about a month. I purchased them from one of those @#$*zone places and when I open the box, all that was there was the shock, one nut and one lock washer. I had to use the original bushing at the top and had to use a make-shift spacer at the bottom because it did not match-up to the exact dimensions to the OEM part. Also had to add extra bushings at threaded part on top to make up for extra play between top mounting bracket and the point where the treads ended. stick to the original parts. you will spend a few more dollars but have no headaches and the correct fit. The Gabriels are cheap at under $50 a pair but I don't recommend them. Shop around (don't go to the dealer, too much money) and you should be able to find Motorcrafts for about $65.00 each. More than double the price but worth everydollar and no problems down the road. Good luck!!

Re: Gabriel Shocks

I was just about to ask what folks thought about the Monroe Sensatrac. They're about $75/pair, but Bilsteins are more than double that.

I do want the soft ride, but I think I may be feeling a few more bumps than I should.

Any comments?

Thanks a bunch.

Re: Gabriel Shocks

I put Monroe Sensitrac schock on a couple of town cars....in all cases, the ride became a bit harsh. I have heard exactly the same thing about Gabriels, though both are good quality shocks....great for my pickup.

My 01 has 70K, and I am looking for shocks now...going to go with Motorcraft for sure to kep the Lincoln ride....

Thanks, David.

I've decided to go with the Motorcraft also......and also for the ride . They are considerable less money also.
