1991 LeBaron, broken left front wheel stud
Howdy Folks,
Looking for insight for pulling the wheel hub for a 91 Lebaron because of a broken wheel stud. The car is front wheel drive with disk brakes. The wheel hub has a keeper covering the bolt which is cotter pin inplace. I can see how to take it a part, but I need to know how to reset that hub bolt. is it torqued on to a certain setting? Is there anything else I should know before taking it a part? Thanks for everything. Sam This place rocks for learning |

I would suggest replacing the entire hub if you're going to take it apart.

Well, that depends. Do you know if your car has pressed bearings or a bolt on hub bearing assembly?

Re: 1991 LeBaron, broken left front wheel stud
Well here we go...
The hub is held on by a large gland nut then a spring washer, bolt keeper and finally a cotter pin. The book shows torque spec's of 180 foot pounds for resetting the hub. Thats as much as I know at this point. Thanks again Sam PS. this is my first front end on an American car. But I've done lots of work on Nissans and VW's Once that gland nut is removed..do I need to use a slap hammer or puller for removing the hub? Also... are these bearings sealed mech. or tappered bearings. I suspect it's gonna be a flat bearing because the gland nut is torqued on, but I thought I should ask. |

It sounds like you have a bolt in assembly. Once you remove the gland nut all that's holding the the HUB on are four bolts in the back of the knuckle. Also, make sure to support the axle.

If you've removed a half shaft before it will be pretty straight forward.
