Question cobalt air intake

i have an 05 cobalt and i want to put on an air intake but theres a sensor on the stock airbox, how do i get around that without spending 300$ on an intake with the sensor plug in?

Re: cobalt air intake

if its an SS all you need to do is get a hacksaw and cut off the airbox, just below the MAS. Then you can put a cone on it you win.

Re: cobalt air intake

make your own out of piping and a cone is all I can say. I havent seen an intake on the 2.2 yet, just the 2.4 and 2.0... but im sure there is some way to hack a chunk out of the airbox!

Re: cobalt air intake

No do not cut your airbox. Number one there isnt a cone that I have seen that is big enough because the mass airflow sensor sets too close to the air box for a cone filter to fit.. I have an 05 2.2 with a k&n short ram typhon and a 2.4 intake manifold conversion from crate engine depot.com and i am now running about 152hp from the stock 130hp to the wheels.. If you try to make your own intake it wont run right because the throttle sensor opens and closes at rates that all depend on the info sent from the MAS.. the k&n runs about $230

Re: cobalt air intake

Well, the SS airbox is very different, as it is a cold air intake stock. The box is far enough away to chop it, almost all SS/SCs have the "airbox mod".

But I have no experience with 2.2s or 2.4s, so dont listen to me you may break something... after all, I used a sledgehammer to install stage two...
