Fog lights fogging up

I can't seem to keep the water out of my fog lights (2001 Edge 4x4). They're the round ones. Anybody have this issue and how did you fix it?

Thanks,
Denver

Re: Fog lights fogging up

It sounds like the front seal (between the reflector and the lens) has busted. Try to reach in behind the bumper and take the offending light out to investigate. You should have the O-ring mating to a smooth surface around the bulb, and the lens is probably siliconed on tightly. If it falls off, or is loose anywhere, silicone it back on and reinstall when dry. Don't worry about aiming, they're trapezoidal lights. Also consider drilling a small pinhole as close to the bottom of the light, especially if you can't fix it otherwise. You should be able to reach it easily from behind the bumper in the front wheel-well.

Thanks lec.

As soon as I get some time (between vacations, working on my motorcycle, physical therapy for a bad knee, work, blah, blah, blah ... boy I've been busy), I'll tear into them.

I'll post what I find to help others.

I wouldn't figure this would take but about 30 minutes or so. Just grab you a bleacher seat cushion and park your duff by the front tire with a Philip's head, and you should be able to easily reach in there and get it out. That's one of the few places on today's vehicles I've seen wide-open spaces.

Re: Fog lights fogging up

This has happened to me a few times. I just take the unit out (3x 8mm bolts IIRC) and then pull the unit apart to clean it. I will then re silicone it, as well as around the base of my bulb (I use 7005 bulbs for more power and they mostly fit). Put it all back in and there you go. 15 minute job.

Good luck. And hello I am new here but quite enthusiastic about my ranger.

Should be a 4.6 swap in the future..........

I'd like to find some rear disk brakes and a diesel motor for mine.
