Unhappy Rad Drain Plug??

Hello again,

I have a 1991 Regal GS 3.8L 4 speed auto. I had to replace the rad drain plug on this car. It started out with little puddles of coolant under the car and I had no Idea where it was coming from as there were no drops left on the chassi to give you an idea as to where it could be leaking. I found out latter that it was coming out of the drain port on the bottom of the rad, because while I was driving the engine light came on, I noticed the temp guage climbing fast. I pulled over, shut down, fluid pouring from the rad drain port. Got it towed home, pulled the rad, and the plastic clip holding the plug in place was broken in 2. Replaced the broken drain plug $7.50. Now I'm getting little puddles of coolant under the car again....

Sorry about the rant again!!!

My question's are:

Is there a secret way to tighten these flimsy plastic drain plugs?
Is their a better enginered plug?
Is it the rad cap over pressurring the system?
Is the problem bigger like a cracked head?

Thanks to all who respond!!!

Cheers
Pat
