1996 Maxima runs rough and stalls

My son has a 1996 Maxima that has all of a sudden started occasionally running rough, kinda bucking and losing power and then it will stall sometimes. But it starts right back up again and sometimes it runs just perfect. We have replace the EGR valve and some oxygen sensor thing near the manifold. He brought it to Autozone and they checked the codes and they mentioned something about the gas cap, which my son says hisses when you open it. So we replaced that...to no avail. I was reading online something about a service recall for an Evap canister vent control, could this be causing the problem? Also it seems to do it more in the morning when you first start it. Any advice would be appreciated.
This car has been a pain since he bought it last fall. The dealer claimed it only had 126,000 miles on it. My son has put all kinds of repairs into it, ball joints, brakes, exhaust etc. figuring it was worth it...well we then find a bunch of receipts for the car with repairs on a car that has over 240,000 miles on it. Gee no wonder the odometer only works once in awhile, it was obviously tampered with. Anyway thanks for listening and for any advice you may have.

Plugs have to be changed every 60k miles, coilpacks start to die after 100k.

Evap system, gas cap wont kill an engine. Vacuum is supposed to be there. The error codes are lottery

If this problem is idle -related, then IACV cleanup may help. If it also is with higher rpm's, then check/replace/clean MAF. All starts from verifying healthy charge voltage.

Morning hangover points to bad coilpacks (moisture seeps into cold engine, after warmup problems change...)

With that mileage all is possible. Read linky pages below, model isnt the same but most bits 'fit'...
