Question Fuel Pump?

I have an '01 GMC 2500HD 8.1L and I think my fuel pump might be taking a dump on me...

If the vehicle sits 10+ minutes you have to crank on it for 5-10 seconds before it will start, the fuel system primes when you turn the key on but I believe the check valve in the pump is going out and fuel is leaching back into the gas tank. Please help before I go drop $300 on a new pump.

Re: Fuel Pump?

sounds more like a fuel pressure regulator located on the drivers side on the fuel rail little chrome mushroom looking thing with a vacuum hose going to it pull the hose if you see any fuel and i mean even moisture change the regultor. trust me it is very very common

Re: Fuel Pump?

How about checking the fuel press. first, pinch off the return line if you suspect the regulator, this will test the pump pressure only. 58 psi. min.
