How good are ceramic brakes?

I called Midas and they said they only use ceramic brakes because they are those are the best brakes. I'm not sure because I've never had them before.

Anyone used them before? How are they compared to the regular brakes like Hawk? Which is better?

Thanks

Re: How good are ceramic brakes?

I prefer ceramic for two reasons, they will hardly ever squeak and NO BRAKE DUST! There stopping power is supposed to be better with less brake fade over semi-metallic pads

I would not believe a gd thing that Midas says. Their mechanics work on comission. More they can tell you is wrong=more illgotten $$ for them. You could bring a car with 25 miles on it into those jack@55es and they would find something to sell you. Not sure about ceramic or metalic, I buy the cheapest autozone offers and my cars stop on a dime.

Re: How good are ceramic brakes?

I'd just go with the HAWK brakes. I agree with "boatin'" I've never had a good experience at MIDAS. When I was younger and just got out on my own, my brakes were squealing pretty bad and they changed out the front brakes and resurfaced my rotors. Fifteen miles later my REAR brakes were still squealing. Also those guys were lying to you. If they only used ceramic brakes, they would have been out of business so fast. If you just do regular or even "Spirited" driving just get whatever brakes you want, although I would recommend HAWK pads.
