1982 Silverado 5.0L Engine 350TH Automatic Transmission

My 1982 Silverado with 5.0L(305C.I.) engine and 350 TurboHydramatic Transmission two-wheel drive is leaking transmission fluid when it is parked on an uphill slope with the engine not running. It doesn't leak when the engine is running. It is leaking from the center of the front driveshaft yolk that slides into the tailshaft of the transmission. It is not leaking from the rear seal of the transmission. Does anybody know if there is an o-ring or some kind of sleeve or something like that inside the tailshaft that could be causing this to leak. I think the hole in the center of the front driveshaft yolk is there by design so the driveshaft doesn't have such a hard time sliding in and out of the transmission when the vehicle is traveling over rougher terrain. Would really like to get this leak stopped as it is driving me nuts trying to figure out why it leaks from where it does.
Would I be causing problems if I took a piece of plastic and some silicone and put over the end of the tailshaft or inside the front yolk on the driveshaft? I know this probably is not the way to repair it but is surely what I am thinking of doing since I have been unable to find any information about this particualr type of leak.
The front u-joint wore out and when I had the driveshaft out replacing the u-joint, I put a new rear seal in the transmission. All help would be appreciated.

I did this on my 83 buick had it for 17years replace the transmission tail shaft bushing replace the O rings on drive shaft tail and only use oem seals....mark drive shaft before removal and install with the marks like before not 180 out....


this transmission is a very strong and trouble free componet and beats the trouble some 700r4 by GM ....with a large trans cooler and fluid replacements this work perfectly for me for 380,000mi.....



use of trans medic seal conditioner before transmission fluid replacement is a good maintanence technic ..do this a few hundred miles before fluid r/r....my transmission never leaked 17years....

the posting your referring to is not a 350 3speed transmission but the GM 700r4 type......which is not the same.......

Thanks! Pulled the tailshaft housing off and found no sleeve so I took one out of another tranny I had sitting here and put in it after putting a new oring it and now have no fluid coming from the front yolk on the driveshaft.

thats good you fixed it ...this transmission is as i said before very good if maintained....only my tail shaft sleeve needed replacing as it would make a clump thump noise and the tail shaft was with some play....but the new sleeve fixed it ..good luck
