Horn Blasting Spontaneously

Have a 97 Lesabre and the horn has started blasting spontaneously. I arrived home from work the other day and it was sitting in the driveway blasting away. If you press the horn, it goes off, but has since blasted 3 more times. It is a straight blast and never stops. Anyone encounter this? Today, it was somewhat difficult to get it to stop. Where is the horn located under the hood? It may have something to do with the recent heat we are having.

More than likely you are right, the horn switch is located within the airbag assembly and heat will cause expansion of those parts. It is a good idea to use a heat shield inside the windshield to block direct sunlight from the steering wheel. Once the damage is done, replacement of the airbag/horn switch assembly may be necessary. Some folks elect to just disable the horn, or if you need it for inspection, install a pushbutton switch in the top of the airbag.

Thanks. Is that switch difficult to replace? I can probably do it. I imagine disconnecting the battery is the first step. Then, it appears the pad with the switch should lift off the top of the airbag-I would think. They ought to have horn switches at the salavage yards by the handful.

I wish it were that simple, the problem is; the horn switches are an integral part of the air bag assembly and cannot be replaced. You will need to replace the whole assembly.

DO NOT TRY TO REPLACE THE SWITCH its located inside of the air bag assembly... would be better to replace the whole assembly or as another user posted install another switch... those airbags will deploy with even a very small static shock and in the blink of an eye, not sure if you have watched the episode (i think it was mythbusters) where they burried a airbag and put a 55 gallon drum on top of it but it launched the drum well over 40feet in the air

you dont want that in your face with out something to hold the airbag back

would really suck to get hit with the metal bracket on the back of the bag assembly

Thanks for the pointers. I have not done anything to the horn (yet) as it has stopped blasting spontaneously. If it starts doing it again, I will do something to fix it.
