'96 front strut cartridge problem

I got the front struts for my '96 and the special tool kit from my local Autozone store. No problems getting the first strut out using the torx-bit and special 1/2' socket. Installed the new strut, got all the bushings back on, ready to tighten down the shaft nut and there is no torx-bit opening in the shaft. Now the shaft just turns with the nut. How in the heck am I supposed to hold the shaft and get that nut tight? I can't get anything to fit onto the shaft with the special socket from the kit. Autozone has sold me something that their tool will not install. Anyone run into this problem? Please let me know how to get the shaft nut tight.

Thanks for your answers....

Have you tried using an impact wrench?

is there any room to get a vise-grip wrench on the shaft?

or to press on it sideways with a crowbar?
