Replacement rocker panel moldings

Hey Guys, Me again...

Got a rather odd question. This is a picture of the side of my G/f's 2002 Grand Prix SE. It is starting to rust out a little near the fender wells and rocker panels on both sides.



Now, here's a picture of the side of my car. Basically what we want to do is order a set of door and rocker moldings from a 4-door GT or GTP preferably with paint code bc/cc U 8554 in order to install them on the SE above so we can sand, prime, and cover up the rust.



Couple questions....

-I have emailed Ed Morad and am waiting for a reply, but anyone know where I can get a set of moldings like this and all the necessary mounting hardware?

-How are these things installed? Is there any drilling/modifications needed to be done to the side of the car?

Should I just leave this to the pros? Thanks for any info guys!

There are typically 2 ways of fastening such trim and I have no info on how those pictured above are applied.

- adhesive which is pre-applied to the moldings, pre-heated right before installation and then "cures" into the (hopefully) long-lasting finished product.

- "christmas tree" type fasteners which enter a hole pierced in the sheetmetal. There could be (really have been) a piercing station in the body shop which got a vehicle style for SE, GT, or GTP based on the vehicle build queue and made the appropriate holes (or lack thereof).

i emailed ed morad about this last fall. he said they are hard to come by, and shipping was outragous.

i wanted to put them on my SE also.

i would check local junkyards, chances are they wont have the same color...but its not real hard to wet sand them and put a few coats of paint on them.

Yeah, Ed Morad emailed me back a few days ago, and said that they dont have any currently, but he said to try again soon.

If the rocker panel is metal. Don't you have to weld the panel back on after cutting off the old rocker panel? My GP on the drivers side is completely rusted through.

I have a 97 SE with rusted Rocker panels. Also have an 03 GT that has a Rocker molding over the lower panal. Why not just order the panal moldings, have them painted and install. Won't replace the rocker panels, but will cover the rust. GM web site has them listed (unpainted I assume) for $187 and $201.

Would that work??

Don't have a part number, but I'm going into a GM dealer today and will check at the body shop for their opinion. I got my info from one of the several GM online parts sites. Cost for the left is $187...retail $306. Cost
for the right is $201....retail $327. If the dealer comes up with those costs,
I know we're talking about the same parts. May even be able to get some parts numbers from them. I will probably order the moldings, and then bring to a local body shop to have them paint and install.

BTW...my 97 has 48,000 miles on it. Bought new and maintainance all done at the local Pontiac dealer.
Great riding car, and I would like to keep it for a few more years, but don't want to be looking at the rust that I know is coming.
