I was looking around at the 96 and to 98 or 99. Anything with lower than 150k miles on the maxima seems great. I've seen some great reports and reviews just after that CO2 sensor and a bunch of other things crap out.
I was looking into buy a maxima, i just want a second opinion and anyone who has had experience with the car, i would like your thought on it. Some say its a great car, others say its crap. Just want to know if its worth it. For a car thats a V6 it has some decent mpg and is a cheap car. regards, Timinsk |

... most ppl drive em ![]() Go read discussions on other problems from maxima.org etc forums, inspection lists etc. Generally hi quality. Every car wears out, no free miles: new shocks, plugs etc go after 60kmiles, exhaust pipe, coilpacks, alt, waterpump start to die after 100k etc etc Buying any car, save 35% to maintenance costs. Then do the repairs on it and squeeze the lemon for 4 yrs. Then get a new project -or- re-invest into next four yr trip...

Re: 96-00* Max Questionable?
Hi, I have a 1996 Nissan Maxima with 337,022 miles on it and it has been by far the best car I have ever had.
I've had all the previous model Maximas (1981 diesel, 1985 SE, 1989 SE, 1996 GXE) and I'm intent upon getting 390k + out of this one. I've only had minor repairs done over the years. A starter in 2004, struts in 2005, an alternator in 2006, and my first muffler in 2008. It runs and drives without any problems. |

Re: 96-00* Max Questionable?
At 60K on a 2001 SE, 2 (of the 4) O2 sensors, 1 (of the 4) catylitic converter, ABS wheel sensor, & rear drivers brake caliper. These are the expensive repairs I considered premature (and expen$ive) for the Nissan nameplate. I'm not counting brake pads, tires, exhaust. I'm not thrilled with the car but it gets up and goes.
