2000 blazer s10 reclining seat help

Another problem with the daughters car. The passenger side front seat reclining lever came off because the cast shaft that the handle connects to broke. Has anyone had the pleasure to fix one of these? And does the seat have to come out? Can the part for the manual reclining be bought at the dealer or do I have to get another seat and pull the part off that one? Car is a 2000 4 door s10 blazer.

Any suggestions/help appreciated

thanks

There are replacement handles on ebay for $20 that attach to the broken shaft.

Re: 2000 blazer s10 reclining seat help

I bought a handle that was supposed to be able to attatch to the broken shaft.(2000 GMC Jimmy SLT) It works, not great, but it works. If you plan on adjusting the reclining portion of that seat more than once a week, and carefully at that, then I would suggest fixing the problem completely. Your best bet would be to find the seat at a junk yard, pull the upholstery off your daughters seat, and recover the junk yard seat. Always seems that no matter how small a repair you do on these trucks, the more you fix, the more comfortable you are with driving it. Just my 2 cents.

Re: 2000 blazer s10 reclining seat help

Hi All
I see this Post is a bit old, But I just Bought a 2003 S10 ZR-2 for my Son, The Drivers Seat Lever is broken off but this looks like the Pivot shaft also, Possibly is Cast, is broken off inside the Seat Upholstery.
I bought New Handles and now see the Broken part of the Shaft in my Old Handle ?
How can this be fixed ?
Anyone have a Picture of that part of the Seat without the Upholstery on it?
Thanks
Timmy from Trumbull, CT

Re: 2000 blazer s10 reclining seat help

I've still got my 99 Blazer and have replaced about 4 seat adjusters.
This is a very poorly engineered and manufactured cheap cheap part they do not last.
Actually I am a little pissed at this as it just breaks for no real reason ... everything else wears out over time.
I think that the seat belt can get looped over it without you knowing which may lead to the breakage who knows?

Anyways ... this part can be replaced without seat removal.
I cannot remember the steps exactly but I think all I did was peal back part of the seat cover and there are 3 or 4 bolts that hold it on. The whole replacement takes no more than about 20-30 minutes, pretty straight forward and not difficult to do.

This part at the dealer is not in-expensive. Its a bit pricey for what it is and as far as I can tell it has never been re-engineered for longer life ... good luck.
