Fuel Line Quick Connect O-Ring

I'm still working on the car.

I made a fuel line disconnect "tool" out of some old stove pipe and it worked pretty good. I got the lines off but there was no visible o-ring in either one. The base was real shiny but I can't believe the connection was metal to metal and didn't leak without some sort of seal in there. There doesn't seem to be any residue in there though.

Did these connects always have o-rings or did some come without them? I can't seem to find any listing for the o-rings separately, just the disconnects. I'm not sure I can put it back together as it is without leaks.

Re: Fuel Line Quick Connect O-Ring

If you are talking about the quick connect by the fuel filter yes thier is an O ring up inside the female portion.
A real PITA to replace!

Or were you inquiring about another section of the fuel lines ??

Re: Fuel Line Quick Connect O-Ring

Sorry about that, I was talking about on the engine leading to the throttle body. There are two of them side by side and I needed to disconnect them so I can replace the rear main seal. I just can't believe it's supposed to be metal on metal but I can't see any type of o-ring at all in either one. I don't even see any type of residue or anything to think an o-ring was ever there. The parts places seem to list only a fitting, no separate o-ring.

Here's a picture of the type of fitting. It's the one on the left:

Re: Fuel Line Quick Connect O-Ring

So is there an o-ring in the front connectors? Doesn't seem like there is.

Re: Fuel Line Quick Connect O-Ring

yes thier should be in the female section of the connetor.
If you cant see where the old O ring was to replace it, you'll have to replace the connector.

Re: Fuel Line Quick Connect O-Ring

Hey thanks xero. I'll do some digging with the dental pick and see if I can find them.

Re: Fuel Line Quick Connect O-Ring

I found them! After some hemmin' and hawin', I finally got the buggers out. I used a small screwdriver and some needle nose pliers to get the retainer clip out of there so I could get a look. I ended up making a small hook out of a piece of wire and I sharpened the end so I could dig in with it. They were both orange colored which was why they were hard to see. Napaonline lists them here:

Re: Fuel Line Quick Connect O-Ring

I forgot to mention they may be orange colored O rings.
Most all part stores carry an assortment of O rings, I thought autozone sold them in packs of 10, for like $5-10.

So now the trick is replacing the O ring back inside the connector.

Good Luck

Re: Fuel Line Quick Connect O-Ring

LOL I wasn't expecting them to be orange at all. At this point the inside of the connector is all orange-rust colored and I was looking for black of course.

Hopefully some tweezers will make installing them easier. I'll probably put a hose clamp on though just to make sure I can get one out if I drop it.
