2004 Grand Am won't run

My daughter, who lives 300 mile away, called and said her car died. She can get it to start, but if she tries to give it gas it stalls out. She made no mention of the check engine light being on, although I didn't think to ask her either. I'm thinking it sounds like a fuel problem.....fuel pump, plugged filter, etc. But I was looking for an opinion from someone more knowledgeable than me. I believe it is a 4 cylinder

Thanks

Re: 2004 Grand Am won't run

Welcome to AF!!

I have to agree that the fuel system would be the place to start. It could be the fuel pump, a plugged filter, or the fuel pump relay that is the problem. I would try to find out if the CEL is illuminated and if it is that could give you an indication of the problem.

One other place to check would be the throttle position sensor. If the TPS went bad it would not send a signal to the computer to increase fuel when the throttle was opened.

If you get any further information, please post and someone will respond with assistance.
