Re: 99windstar passenger side window

I have had to lift up the control button assembly, from the driver's door, remove the swithes ... disassemble, clean and lubricate the little contact switches. Somewhat tedious work ... but it got rid of my "won't move" problems.

you could also try to activate the switch while jiggling the rubber sleeve between the door and the frame to see if a wire or 2 are chafing. I've had this happen a couple of times.

Re: 99windstar passenger side window

I have a 99' that had the same problem. I had power all the way to the motor. I then removed the motor and it worked fine. Put it back in and window worked.

About two months later, same thing happened. pulled out and put back in, it worked again. I think it is either jamming up or has a bad spot on motor. I know leave window down about an inch( have ventvisors) and has not done it yet again.

You cold try this. There is a write up on here, on how to remove the motor. Be ready, it is a PITA job.

Re: 99windstar passenger side window

It can jamb either wide open or fully closed. Do the inside lights dim any when you try operating it? According to the diagrams I have, there is no relay that is activated every time you use the window switch, so you wouldn't have a click sound from that. The way the motors are wired to provide bi-directional movement, in addition to 12v hot going to the motor all the way from the driver's master control switch, which also provides the power to the passenger's switch, the ground comes all the way from there too. The polarity switches side to change motor direction, so you need to be sure to have both at the motor when checking.

Re: 99windstar passenger side window

My passenger side window does the same thing on my '96.
I also had the track break......on both the driver's side and the passenger side.
The track that broke was the one that is closest to the latch.....furthest from the door hinge.
You have to remove the inner door panel to get to it......replacement from your FORD dealer, bolts right in.
The spot welds broke on mine.....and the track was laying in the bottom of the door......making a rattle when I went over big bumps.

I have pictures posted that show the inner door panel removal......the track, and how to change the motor (where to drill to get to the bolts).
A link to the pictures is in my signature.

I would try spraying some electronic cleaner into the switches to clean them....as it sounds like the easiest thing to do.
For the passenger side......see if it works on 1 side and not the other.....and indication that it could be a dirty or worn switch contact.

Re: 99windstar passenger side window

The best way to diagnose the problem is to remove the door panel. It takes less than 15 minutes to remove the door panel and disconnect wire harness to the window motor. Connect a multimeter and see if you are getting voltage. If you do not get voltage, your problem could be the switch, relay, or fuse. I did a write-up on this, cilck link: http://www.webshots.com/search?query...e=chromeheader
