03 durango 4.7 oil change
OK, this is kinda a dumb question, but has anyone figured out how to get the oil filter off w/o spilling oil all over the dang place? I have the 4wd (dont' know if the 2wd is different) and there is the metal shield with the hole in it to get to the oil filter which conveniently drips all over the top of the shield. I can't stand it. Short of ethnically engineering some big plastic funnel or something is there an easy way?
I just got mine 8 k miles ago and am coming up on the 3rd oil change and am already sick of the mess. Thanks. |

Re: 03 durango 4.7 oil change
Just be careful and make sure the gasket off the old oil filter does not stick to the housing. Also check the front and rear differentals, transfer case. That is part of an oil change, checking the fluids and most oil change places skip this step.

Cheap easy funnel is a piece of cardboard; throw it away when you are done.

Re: 03 durango 4.7 oil change
I remove the whole shield...there's just plastic press-in fasteners holding it in place. They come off with an upholstery fastener removal tool. The oil still spills, but at least you can have a drip pan underneath to catch it.
