1997 jimmy hard to start first thing in am

I have spark, it seems like the fuel line is empty, takes a few cranks first start of the day, i have to keep pumping the gas peddle between tries, starts tries to start, like their is no fuel, then after a min or two it will start to get enough fuel and starts, runs like a top after starting.

If it sits for a few hours or over night it starts all over again. Does it every morning.

I replaced the fuel filter and threw in some injector cleaner and still does the same.

Any suggestion or ideas ??

Check fuel pressure and leakdown rate. Ignition in RUN position, engine off, fuel pressure must be 60psi to 66psi. After 2 to 3 seconds the fuel pump will shut off and fuel pressure must remain above 55psi for 3 to 5 minutes. Post your results and we'll continue with diagnosis.

Before jumping to a conclusion you better do the checks above. Fuel pumps aren't cheap. If you install a fuel pump & it doesn't cure the problem then what?

Good point! One of the main reasons for DIY, (Do It Yourself) rather than GIY, (Guess It Yourself) is to save money. Unless your crystal ball is working incredibly well, proper diagnosis will save you money every time. Any one, or more, of several things could cause the problem the original poster is experiencing.
