where is ecm on 99 taurus,i need keypad code

just sold car to this girl who brealy wants the key pad working and i dont have the code ,any ideas?

Welcome to the forum!

This topic has been addressed numerous times on the forum. Please try the "Search this forum" feature from the Taurus forum main page. You might try the keywords "keypad code."

It's not the ECM (Engine Control Module) but rather the Remote Antitheft Personality (RAP) module. I'll give you a hint, it's located under the dash.

According to my owner's manual on a 95, it says to look on the ECM for the five digit code. For that year, the bloody thing is buried, really buried up and behind the glovebox. I've recently had to pull a few. Access is easiest by opening and dropping it all the way upside down by pushing in on the sides. I don't know about your year, but I'm a little less stingy with the info than Rod. Just kidding.

I'm not being stingy with the information, just trying to suggest people stick to the forum regulations. When there are numerous threads that all address the same topic, those who actually DO use the search feature end up overwhelmed with hits. It would be wonderful if a user could do a search for "keypad code" and only have 3 or 4 detailed threads to review on the subject.

As for the code location, even though the service manual may say "ECM" it's not suggesting the code will be on the Engine Control Module like most people think of when they see "ECM" (case in point). Ford typically refers to this as the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Their use of "ECM" here probably means "Electronic Control Module" I suppose in which case ECM would be accurate. But, less confusing, is to suggest the code can be found on the Remote Anti-theft Personality (RAP) module.

NO ONE can fault you with being stingy as you are the most generous and helpful of all posters, and your info is quite accurate, too.
You're right, you don't have to quote me chapter and verse on searches, as I too wish posters would search more before they request a rehash of a covered or even ongoing subject. It amazes me how often parallel threads occur simultaneously. Then I find myself repeating myself for their benefit.
Hence, that angle of sarcasm.
So, you're not stingy with the info, and you're reasonble to expect people to use the search more.

Back to the code location.
I follow the confusion, but I have no idea where I got the idea that it is on the PCM/ECU/ECM/engine computer, except that it was already suggested. I have no idea where I could have read that as my owner's manual DOES NOT say that. I also have first hand knowledge that there is not a code sticker on my ECM....etc, as I needed to recheck my info. What the OM does say concurs with the service manual but vaguely refers to it as a computer module. I looked at the Ford SM for a 95 (have I said I really like and appreciate having it, big guy? ), it actually says to look at the electronic door lock control processor located in the back of that generation of Taurii. I guess it is pre-RAP, and what you have, roadglide7, is a RAP that Rod teasingly and stingily(I'm kidding, I'm kidding man, relax, I can't help myself !) says is under the dash. Another location to look is on a label on the luggage compartment door, which I guess is for the sedan only, but could be the lower compartent in the wagon. Then there is the owner's warranty and code cards, which I guess you don't have.

Yep, I knew you were joking, but I wanted others reading the posts to understand why I've often been posting for people to try the search feature rather than just providing the information. I wasn't offended. I should have have prefaced my post with, "I know you're just kidding, but...."

I spent all last week dealing with auditors and long days. I've been a bit tired and grouchy lately, hopefully I'll be a bit more thorough in posts this week....
