01 Taurus Fuel Pump?

My 01 Taurus would not start after some errands around town the other day, 90 degree day. The car would start but would stall right away, ruff idle then stall. I opened the hood and let it cool for maybe 45 minutes, then got it started and drove it home, and its been fine since. Maybe it me being more attentive now, but seems the fuel pump has gotten more noisy intermittenly. Am I looking at a fuel pump? Fuel filter is maybe 1 1/2 old 25K, car has 120K on it. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks In Advance.

I wouldn't necessarily write off the possiblility of a dirty fuel filter. All it takes is one bad gas fill.

The symptoms do indicate a fuel pump on its way out, but certainly try the fuel filter and adding a bottle of fuel injector cleaner to the tank.
