Thumbs up no power! cant figure it out!

So I recently installed my speakers and subs into my new car. i put the head unit in, connected the power wire and all the other amp wires, secured the subs and it was working good. the next day i start thumpin it and i change the song and its a song with mad more bass to it compared to the last song and the subs hit hard for a second then it all shuts off. so after 20 minutes it wouldnt turn on and i investigated, i rechecked all wires, all the lights in my car was working, then i changed the radio fuse. it still wont turn on. i was thinking the amp fuses but that wouldnt affect the head unit turning on would it? thanks for the help ! greatly appreciated

Re: no power! cant figure it out!

there is a radio fuse under the dash, and there usually another one under the hood that powers the radio and other circuits.

Re: no power! cant figure it out!

I changed all the fuses and still nothing, I also tried it back on the stock stereo and my buddys and it didnt work so it isnt my head unit, all the wiring is correct and all the interior and exterior lights work so it couldnt be an electrical problem, could it? any suggestions are appreciated!!

Re: no power! cant figure it out!

It has to be an electrical problem since none of them are working. You should get a multimeter an check that it is indeed getting power. The red and yellow wires are the power if you have a standard plug.

Re: no power! cant figure it out!

I pulled out the handy test light, and I am getting power. My next step is that I am just going to rewire everything, although it proved to already work somthing may have happened. I will let you know!

Re: no power! cant figure it out!

dont really know if this will help, but when i first installed my head unit everyting worked fine for a couple days and then all of a sudden on the way home from work it just cut off and woudnt cut back on. my horn or my digital climate control wouldnt work either.

the next day i found out it wasnt grounded right or something like that? it may be the ground but im not really sure.

Re: no power! cant figure it out!

btw though i would get a dmm and use that over a test light because i my freind had a partcle blown fuse that gave out 7 volts and with a test light we over looked it until i took out my dmm.

Re: no power! cant figure it out!

also, the resistance of those test lights can blow the air bag if you touch the wrong wire
