GDB late model Spec C RA

Fujimi kit, this is the same Mitsubishi white on my Altezza.

Almost ready for the dreaded orange peel removal step.

Some dust got in the clearcoat as I was doing the final wet coat

I had some black+grey carpet material left over from the last project, but it ran out after I did everything except the fronts. So I tried some red flocking mixed with a little bit of black. Once you started putting carpet into the interiors you will never go back to leaving it out.

Complete interior shot:

Re: GDB late model Spec C RA

Nice pig nose. Now if they would just come out with a GG Wagon!

Did the RA have the red detail behind the 3 grilles? Or was that only on the RA-R?

Re: GDB late model Spec C RA

Carpet material was flocking powder(mine is testors apparently) available in my LHS for 5 a tube (one color). One tube should be good for 10-ish cars but I mix different amounts of black/grey etc to give the carpet a more realistic look. Also used were masking tape, double sided tape, and paper to increase hardness of the finished carpets for easier handling.

More progress:

The chrome on wheels were washed off with bleach and will be painted a mix of flat aluminum and metallic grey. Brakes are currently being painted as well. Pics coming soon.

Airbrushed on 1 part XF56 to 2 part XF16 + duplicolor clear:

Now looking at it the kit wheels do look a bit small.

Re: GDB late model Spec C RA

OK just got the tires on the wheels and everything major part used for the mockup. Some problems found are:

-carpet on rear deck obstructed body/chassis assembly and are totally not visible.
-wheels tuck too far into fender. It looks as of someone put on wheels with too much positive offset.

I have seen that most of the RA's on this forum had aftermarket wheels installed, does anybody experience the same "offset" problem with the wheels?

Re: GDB late model Spec C RA

That interior looks great! Although the seats look wierd to me. Were they airbrushed or brushed?

Nice build up though!

Re: GDB late model Spec C RA

The black on the seats were airbrushed while the blue were hand brushed. Front seats needed some gaps filled where their backs are installed.

After putting spacers behind the disc brakes the stance looks a lot more reasonable. Even the wheel size seems ok now.

Looking good! This is going to turn out just as well as your Altezza.
Keep it up!

Damn, when I think that Fujimi kit/wheel combo are outscaled, you can reeeally make them look good and in scale!!

Have you ever tried doing that magic with the Fujimi EP3? My wheels ALWAYS seem sooo small... x_o

Re: GDB late model Spec C RA

Thanks for the encouragement guys!

rod_k2: Yea perhaps try pushing the wheels out a little bit so the wheels sit flush with the fender. Also I think that lowering the car will make the wheels look even smaller. If anything you will even want to raise the ride height to make the wheels look bigger due to the increased ground clearance.

Re: GDB late model Spec C RA

Nice work. When you go to do the window frames, don't forget the mirror bases are black, too. The mirrors themselves have a black trim around the edges, also.

And it looks like it might be too late to mention the Spec C has all-black seats? Maybe your 1/24 driver traded for the black/blue!

Is the lip going to be white, too?
