model explanations SL1,SC1 ect.

could someone give me all the saturn models for the 93year? What do the various acronyms stand for?
Could buying the wrong surpantine belt cause me to have problems with idler pully rattle? In other words, idler tentioner hitting either its limits in one direction or the other( belt too small or too big)?
This only happens when in gear,AC on at idle. Turn AC off and rattle stops.
By the way, happy bithday to moderator sierra.. we share to same day.

Re: model explanations SL1,SC1 ect.

SC = Coupe, 2 door sporty model
SL = Sedan, 4 door
SW = Wagon

A number comes after most, either a 1 or 2 that denotes if the engine is a single or dual overhead camshaft. There are some years that are only designated SC or SL but I'm not that well versed in Saturn trivia.

Now, other than the two different engines, all these cars are the same from the windshield forward. An SL1 and an SW1 are pretty much exactly the same under the hood except for option variations.

You do need to make sure you have the correct belt length for your car and options but if any of the pulleys are wobbly, they probably have a bad bearing.

Re: model explanations SL1,SC1 ect.

SX is the base model car. It comes with no power steering, manual tranny, no power anything, or a/c along with a SOHC engine.

Yes the options of your car will effect belt length. However the belt would not effect the tensioner rattle

Remove the tensioner and make sure the bolt that you turn to release tension on the belt is fully seated. Sometimes it can come loose if you turn the bolt the wrong way when removing/putting on the belt and cuase the pulley to rattle. Otherwise you need a new tensioner bc the bearing is bad. $60 IIRC at the dealer.

Replace/fix it before it breaks and you have bigger issues

Re: model explanations SL1,SC1 ect.

Thank you gentlemen for the imformation. Between my Toyota engine rebuild, Saturn sunroof leaking and noise under the hood, Ive been using this site quite often. Once again, thanks.
