Porsche 924 Group 4 - Martini
This is 99% complete. Still a few minor tweaks such as the Porsche script on the rear to do. I had some major issues with the decals, see WIP thread here
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=912435 The rear hatch is just resting in place at the moment because it does not fit properly and I still have not figured out a way around it yet. Some reshaping and cursing needed yet I think! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Re: Porsche 924 Group 4 - Martini
Great result. I am starting one of these which was squashed with a snapped A post. I plan to paint it red (a la Lancia Martini livery). I will definitely use yours as a basis for the mods needed, especially around the rear bumper area (just removed the protruding USA spec section). I will start a WIP thread soon.

Re: Porsche 924 Group 4 - Martini
That porsche looks great. Nice livery, i hate to say it but i do it all the time is spraying on too much of the base coat (silver). The shine looks great, but whats beneath, is a tangerine. I find it very hard to apply metallics myself.
All in all a beautiful build!!! The detail on the wheels, tailights, and interior is impressive. |

The Tamiya TS silver I have used on other models seemed to give a better more smooth result. Perhaps because I used an automotive spray for the Porsche 924 it highlights the problem due to the metallic particle size of automotive paint on a scale model? I have a 635 BMW model in build with a base silver coat (also automotive spray) that I have yet to clear coat and it looks fine so I will have to see how that one turns out!

Re: Porsche 924 Group 4 - Martini
You can 'sand' metallic automotive paints. I rubbed down silver on my '67 Charger (see WIP Muscle Car threads) with worn 1200 grit and it worked fine. It's always too tempting to put too much top coat on to get that instant smooth finish to try and save time but it often goes pear shaped (speaking from bad expeience!). In reality it's better to use mist coats, take your time and rub each coat down!
