Spare Tire Replaced with Full Tire

Hey guys hope ya'lls lumina are running good. I wanted to have everyones opinion on this. I was thinking about taking out the spare tire and replacing it with the full size tire as the ones already on the car. I thought it could be do able because the 9c3 cars did have a full tire as a spare.

Let me know on my 98 lumina.opcorn:

Re: Spare Tire Repalced with Full Tire

What is your question, the issue is it will not fit where the space saver was, correct?

Re: Spare Tire Repalced with Full Tire

Sorry I didnt make it clear,

I wanted to know can i drop a regular full size tire in the spare tire spot. I wanted to replace it with a real tire when i get a flat.

I thought it make it easier in the event of a flat, and wouldnt have to worry about going no more than 30 mph with it on.

It could just be a swap and i could get the one with a flat patched/plugged at my convenice.

It is a good idea in theory. Unfortunately I doubt you will be able to fit a full size tire on a full size rim in the spare tire compartment. If you want to sacrifice some trunk space and lay it in there it may work.

Measure the space in the trunk & measure the tire on the car. The answer will be in the tell of the tape.

Re: Spare Tire Repalced with Full Tire

Thanks guys, I did the measure tape, and it looks like i could pull it off. I wont know until I pull a tire off or get an actual size to test out.

Thanks again

Rob

Re: Spare Tire Repalced with Full Tire

a fullsize spare tire will fit, it will stick up about 2-3 inches taller but will fit. if your lumina had been a 9c3 it would have come with rubber trunk mat with a raised area for the time see a pic of one here

Re: Spare Tire Repalced with Full Tire

I went to the salvage yard and saw a wrecked lumina with good tires on it and bought one. I took my doughnut spare out and put the full size tire in its place in the trunk. Horizontally it fits no problem. It is slightly taller then the depth of the well, but it doesn't cause a significant problem. Works for me.

Re: Spare Tire Repalced with Full Tire

Mine sticks up in the rear of the spare area pretty bad.
The tires are 14", so I don't know what the deal is.
I'll have to look closer.

Re: Spare Tire Repalced with Full Tire

I wondered about that. I mean having a full size tire if it would buldge the floor up a bit putting the tire in there. I will have to look into one when i go to a salvage yard. I know in either case it would come in handy if you did have a flat.
