valve seals

I was wondering if anyone has installed valve stem seals and how you got them out and replaced them. Does it take a special tool? thanks

Re: valve seals

I used a high quality pair of duckbill pliers to get mine out and tapped the new ones in with a socket.

Re: valve seals

Thanks Johnny, I'll try that. I never tried to pull them out because I thought there might be a special tool to use for that. Just yank 'em out I guess.

Re: valve seals

They can be stubborn and break in pieces before you get them all the way off so I took a flat screwdriver and heated the end with a torch till it was red and then bent the last 3/16-1/4 inch of it to a 90 degree angle so I could get under it and pull them out, Ken.

Re: valve seals

I had one that was stubborn and I used a 90 degree bent screwdriver on that one like 91 ragtop stated.

Re: valve seals

Are you burning oil? I changed mine only after the exhaust ones allow oil to get inside the cylinders.
