Firewall Holes?

Does anyone know if/where there are some existing holes in the firewall? I want to run some wires from my battery to the car interior and I'd prefer not to have to drill anything.

Thanks!

My wife bought her 2001 GP second hand with some amp wires run to the trunk. I will check and see how hthe previous owner ran this and get back to ya asap.

Re: Firewall Holes?

check underneith the brake booster where the throttle cable runs through. I think there may be a hole about an inch in diameter with a rubber grommit in it..... Might, dont quote me on that!

BTW, we know the real reason for your wires through the firewall.... its to run that BIG amp for your subbies! HA Got ya! LOL

Re: Firewall Holes?

There's a hole that's on the passenger side, kinda in the area just underneath the glovebox (as a reference), that's where I ran my subwoofer cable for mine. There's a rubber grommet there and it's hard to run a 4 gauge wire through. When I did mine it kinda messed it up so I just filled in that area with silicone, seemed to do the trick, no leaks.

Mine is run like this (I know, the bay could be much cleaner, shit everywhere...) follow the blue wire that comes off the post above the fuses, where the wire heads down, the hole is down there a little ways. There's already some black wire running through it...don't remember what it is. When you feed the wire through there it falls eventually to the passenger floor (you won't see it till you take the kick-guard off, obvious, I know)...then you can take it wherever.

There is a decent sized hole behind the brake booster that I have an amp wire through. It is surrounded by a rubber grommet. Kinda hard to get to though.

Re: Firewall Holes?

There ya go! Thanks for the confirmation Jatala!

When I went through it, I used a coat hanger with my wire taped to the end. I poked the hanger through from the engine compartment then just looked up with my head near the pedals and saw the coat hanger. It wasnt too hard. Maybe removeing the driver kick panel will help.

Re: Firewall Holes?

Sweet guys, thank you so much!! I found a hole on the passenger side at the passenger's feet, but it is PACKED tight with a hose and wires already for my amp (one step ahead of you tblake!)and my guages, etc. So I think the one by the brake booster will work perfectly. If I would've known it was there, I probably would've used it first!

Highbeamz, I noticed that you have a short ram air, how is that working for you? I used to have one just like that, but I FINALLY figured out how to make a true cold air and I'm really excited. The final parts should be coming this week.

Re: Firewall Holes?

The short ram was because I didn't feel like cutting into the wheel well until I have other mods that make a cold air worthwhile...and for the record I do have a box in mind so I'm not just sucking in hot air that circulating around the engine bay, as it is right now.

I don't notice any real power gains, although I think I really did gain about 2mpg highway, but my old filter was pretty dirty too, so that probably contributed.

Re: Firewall Holes?

Cool, cool. I actually got my parts last night and you're right- there wasn't much of a difference.
What mods are you going to do to "warrant" a cold air? I might consider following suit. The next thing I want to do is get rid of that ridiculous U-bend.

Re: Firewall Holes?

Matt, rather than spend money on the ZZP ubend delete and then have to pay a shop to weld it in, just buy a ZZP bolt in downpipe with cat converter. It will come to about 180.00 and you can put it in yourself. Make sure to start soaking the bolts in some panther piss (PB Blaster) about twice a day for a week or they will break off.

Re: Firewall Holes?

here's the 3.5" pulley I have http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...=198&catid=111

and here's the downpipe I'm getting before summer is over. http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_p...=551&catid=110

not sure, but I think only the 2.5" will bolt up to the stock manifolds. So get a 2.5" bolt in with Cat. Add both front and rear gaskets and your set.

Dont toss your old Downpipe. Take it to a recycler, they will pay you for it. Probably even more than the 50 bucks ZZP will give you.
