1994 Chevy Cavilier transmission fluid change

Hello All,

What is the best way to change the ATF on this vehical? It has a 3.1L engine with air conditioning. Is it possible to change the transmission filter and fluid by removing the bottom plat of the transmission? OR would it be better just to remove the hose from the transmission to the ATF cooler at the radiator and drain as well as introduce new ATF to the system? If so, Can somebody let me know what the thread of the fitting has be be to connect a hose to the AFT port at the radiator? What kind of ATF fluid pressures can I expect to see?

my cavi is a manual trans, but I've changed fluid on other vehicles. Its best to drop the pan because you'll want to change the filter as well (If it gets plugged it can starve the pump and then its all over). So drop the pan, drain it, clean it out, change the filter, and some cars have a acess cover to get to the torque converter so remove this and rotate the crank (make sure to turn the same direction as normal engine rotation otherwise you could jump the timing) until you see the drain plug on the tc and drain it out too. then button it all up and fill it up, run it for a minute then top it off.

Most converters installed since the '80 no longer include a drain plug. Some aftermarket converter still have them. It isn't likely you'll find one on your vehicle.

Installing a drain plug in the pan is also a good idea while it is off.
