Question No-Start when relays clicking - fuel pump relay?

Hello and thanks for helping.

My 95 Bonneville has some relays clicking under the glove box. It appears to be the fuel pump relay and I can hear the fuel pump pulsing with the relay. The radiator fan relay has also done the rapid click thing too - sounds like an old bathroom exhaust fan.

The car started stalling while driving and would restart no problem. Then it got worse and would not restart after stalling out. During those times it would stall and not restart - I hear the rapid clicking relays.

I replaced the fuel pump relay but it did the same thing.

I was told to check out the module under the coil packs but is that something that would cause an electrical flap in the relays?

What's going one here?
TIA

Try cleaning the ends of the battery cables. You need to remove the rubber boot to clean the positive cable ends.

Some other possibilites are a bad computer or bad ground for the computer or fuel pump relay.

Re: No-Start when relays clicking - fuel pump relay?

Did some looking and the ground buss on both sides of the car (under carpet near the door sills) are in great condition.

Battery connections looked...not new. They were very tight, I loosened them and re-tightened them, shaking the cables a bit. They seemed fine and the power to the car seems as good as can be: Starter spins/turns over the engine fast and no struggle, head lights, power windows and door locks = all powered up strong even when cranking the engine over.

Fuel Pressure: 46 psi, jumps to 54 psi when cranking the engine and then drops back to 46. Held at 46 psi for 10 minutes, then I removed the gauge...may have dropped 1 psi.

In-Line Spark Plug Tester shows fire on all three coils - only looked at one post on each coil.

Check Engine Light pulses with the tone of the fuel pump relay under the glove box.

This tells me the injectors are not firing.

So what should I be looking at now? If it were a crank or cam sensor, I would not think there would be spark.

Thanks.

There is a possibility that the PCM may have bit the dust... I can't say that 100% for certain, but it is one thing I would try..

Is the PCM also sometimes called the ECM or computer? Is it the shiny box under the glove box, mounted to the firewall, about 6"x 6" and a bit over an inch thick?

Re: No-Start when relays clicking - fuel pump relay?

I am having a very similar problem on my 90 Mustang GT. Mine will start and run for a few minutes the first time. Then the fuel pump relay will start clicking and the engine will die. I jumped my power on the EEC Power relay to rule out a ignition problem, and a faulty Relay. The same problem still happened. I am thinking that my computer is bad, but I really don't want to spend $250 on a new computer and it not fix the problem. Have you found anything out?
