replace check engine lamp

recently my check engine lamp burnt out and as i should be thanking my lucky stars for the end of the annoying sore thumb on my dash (evap code - no driveability or mileage issues), i decided that the bulb has to be replaced. anyone ever attempt this job or does the entire dash have to come apart?

Re: replace check engine lamp

On my '96, which has a mechanical speedometer, I have replaced several illumination lamps that were part of the instrument cluster. The biggest struggle I had was disconnecting the speedometer cable from the back of the cluster. It was just hard to see and harder to reach. If you have an electronic speedometer (analog or digital readout), then it will be much easier. There are a few pieces of trim that need to be taken off to get to it, but they aren't difficult once you find ALL the screws.
