Here is the problem, I own a 97 saturn SL-1 and when I went to replace the stock head unit with the sony tape deck I had from my other car I ran into some problems. First off the antennae wire wont stay in the head unit, I managed to buy a antennae adapter that kept it connected well. The next problem is, there is no radio, tapes work fine, perfect but when I turn on the radio it just is static, when I had it in my last car it worked great. I put the old head back in and the radio works, I am confused. I tried hooking the antennae up without the adapter and just having the dash hanging out to see if thats it, it still dont pick up any FM or AM signals. I wonder if this is a saturn issue or if my head unit is broken. Please help.

obviously, the antenna connection is not being made at the head unit ....... try looking up in there and seeing where the center pin connector, then see what it takes to make a good connection.

Wouldn't the radio start to pick up as the antennae wire got closer?
