2 wire or 1 wire alternator? '87 Caprice
My alternator's got 2 wires coming out of it. Not sure if this is supposed to be this way or not...I ask because 1 of the wires is not hooked up to anything. If it's supposed to be hooked up, then what to? You can kinda see in the picture below:

On my car, there is a red wire that connects to a stud on the back, that connects in turn to the battery. The other wire connects to the harness, but I believe only one wire is hooked up there.

So I guess I'll go ahead and get a 1 wire alternator. Any idea what that 2nd wire does that goes to the harness?
