Where did you guys learn this stuff

So where did you guys learn so much about cars? School? I want to learn as much as I can but I'm not trying to make a career out of it. I don't learn so well by reading but are there any good books about auto repair you could point me to?

Re: Where did you guys learn this stuff

Your learning style may be such that a hands on approach works. I'm not sure if your drivng yet or where your at in skills.

Start with bicycles, min-bike, motorcycles, small engines, go-carts, 4 wheelers, snomobiles, ect.

THEN move up to cheap , junk cars, trucks, then better ones. Best way to learn is to "have to fix them" BECAUSE THEY broke.

Re: Where did you guys learn this stuff

A good old All Data sub has a lot of repair info.
http://www.alldata.com/products/diy/index.html

Factory repair manuals is a good learning book.
AZ has a repair info online a there web site.

High schools have auto repair courses,

Auto places have training courses.
Most Public libraries have car repair info.

Best way to learn hands on is working with a good mechanic or a DIY

Re: Where did you guys learn this stuff

I think I'm a hands on learner, but that's not really an option for me. I'm already in college and I don't know very much about cars to start with. I can use tools competently. I'm mainly looking for books I guess. What kind of textbooks do students get if they go to school to be a mechanic?

Most schools use all data repair info.
On text books check with some of the mechanic schools.

The all data online sub will give you a lot of repair info and how to.
To learn on your car try a online sub.
But for each car you will need another.sub.http://www.alldata.com/products/diy/index.html

Good Luck
