code reader for 95 Lesabre

Does anyone know of a code reader or reasonable priced scanner that will read a 95 lesabre? 3.8 liter. I have tried several and they won't link. I took it to a shop last year and they used a tech 2 on it. Hope I don't have to do this again. It is the crossover year form obd1 to obd2. It has obd2 plug. I'm getting check engine light, my daughter put ethynol gas in it don't know if that will kick the light or not. Thanks in advance.

You can get some good deals on Actron CP9150 that comes complete with all the cables & carrying case; Click Here or you can buy only the CP9145 with the additional OBD1 cable: Click Here & Here. Both will work on the 94-95. Of course other brands are available, usually at a higher price.

Re: code reader for 95 Lesabre

Maybe I need to state my question a different way. Has anyone successfully got a code out of a 95 Buick Lesabre and used a low end tool. If so what one was used, I'm not saying the one suggested won't work because I have not tried it but would like to be sure before I go out and purchase another one. It does not have obdI. I have an obdII scanner but it will not link. I took it to Pep Boys and they tried the Actron and the Code scout on it and they would not link either. They told me I had a computer problem, but I know a tech 2 will read it. I had this same situation last year. Thanks

Re: code reader for 95 Lesabre

U have OBD 1.5 so there is no cheap route. I hate going to the stealership for a "idiot" light. $110 for a five minute scan tool hook up. But my check engine light on came on twice since I had my car. The first time my car was stumbling which was due to a clogged EGR valve which was due to a bad coil. They told me I needed a new EGR valve. I changed the coil pack, $20, and the problem went away that night. so i felt like a The second time I knew it was a "lazy oxygen sensor so I just changed it and it hasn't come back on since. I would just pay the extra money and get the scan tool. Why go to the stealership so the can rape u. When I save up the money I'm going to get me one.

Re: code reader for 95 Lesabre

Thanks for your help. Hot z 28 thanks for the web site. I was hesitant about spending money on another scanner I wasn't sure would read. I had tried several that said they would read the 95 and they didn't. I called Actron corp today and they told me how to read it. The cp9150 is no longer available through them but the new one is cp9190. Etool still had some but I decided to go with the new one.

Thanks to c man also I didn't really know what I had. I knew it wasn't obdI and knew it wasn't full fledge obdII.

I'll let you know when I get the tool and how it works.

Thanks

Tell us what the scanner indicates, high or low voltage on the TPS, or both. In addition, you need to do the TPS voltage test with a DVM before condemning the TPS. This could be the PCM!

Re: code reader for 95 Lesabre

The cp9190 that I got from etooldirect was 254.00 included is the obd1 and obd2 cables along with adapters for cigarette lighter, and one to connect alligator clips to battery. Hard case and two other adapter for I assume Ford and Chrysler. The cp9150 is 158.00 I think. Actron tech said the new on is cp9190 the 9150 is no longer available through them.

Hot z 28 I did use a dvm to test the TPS. I made a new post. It is reading High. The grey wire is 5 volt. The blue wire (signal) is 4 1/2 to 5 throttle closed throttle. It reads about 1 volt with throttle open. Just the reverse to what it should. Black wire shows to have good ground.

A = ground wire
B = signal wire
c = 5 volt ref. according to my wiring diagram

I also did a ohm test between B & C. Switch off. Low ohm at closed throttle and climbed to about 2.888 on the 20 ohm scale with throttle open.

I don't like to think about it but I think you are probably right about pcm. I have tried about 5 tps now thinking they may have made them wrong or faulty. Parts store didn't know either. Appreciate any further help.

Re: code reader for 95 Lesabre

Just bought the CP9150 kit of ebay for $148. I was under the store name Artic tools but was sold by Etools. So I got I from the same place HotZ28 suggested but for $10 cheaper. Anyway its a nice tool and my first scan tool. Wanted the CP9190 but my buget can't afford it. So I had to settle for this but I really like it.

Select "Global OBDII" and see what it does.

Re: code reader for 95 Lesabre

I did that too and it still wouldn't communicate.

Re: code reader for 95 Lesabre

"What we have here is; failure to comunicate". If you don’t have a problem with the OBDII connector, you might want to give Actron technical assistance a call. This is not typical of an OBDII system!
