Re: 97 Grand prix transmission fit

It will bolt up, but the half shafts will need to be changed...or at least the driver's side, I'm sure someone can go into the specifics better than I, something about the HD transmission having different length half-shafts.

Not true, you will not have to change axle shafts and I know the truth knowing I did a ton of these.Make sure the gear ratio is right or it will not work. All you have to change is the final drive if the gear ratio is not right and sometimes the electrical.

Re: 97 Grand prix transmission fit

I dont know guys, the 97 was offered with a 4t60e and a 4t65e. Better make sure what one you have before you try to swap in that 4t65e-hd from the 98 GTP.

Re: 97 Grand prix transmission fit

Yeah, 97 is that oddball year...

Should it matter though? Wouldn't a Series II 3800 be a Series II 3800 regardless of year or was there major differences between the 4t60e and 4t65e? I know the 65 is a little beefed up compared to the 60, but I would think fitment wise it would bolt up...

Re: 97 Grand prix transmission fit

then the electrical connections will be different, and without further mods, the 4t65e-hd will not work.
