Re: Greddy profec B tuning

ya i think it was you but when i put in your settings im running about 11 psi which is still better than stock but im really looking for around 14 or so. I tried turning up the boost settings but it would just keep spiking to like 14 or 15 then drop to 6 or so. I dont know why im having so much trouble with tuning this thing. But if you could guide me in the right direction the would be great.

sounds to me like ur tuning the wrong setting. ur setting the responce not the actual boost, and where is ur boost gauge tapped into? and what boost gauge do u have?

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

The Greddy Profec B spec II has been known to not work very well with the 3/S platform. Now not everyone has problems but enough do that most 3/S owners stay away from this ebc if possible.
Basically when setting up any ebc, you're gonna have gain and set. The gain controls how fast the turbo(s) spool up while set is more for getting to certain psi. So you turn up the set til your boost gauge reads 10psi and then slowly adjust your gain. The quicker quicker spool along with the 10psi already created will allow you to build a little more boost. Now keep on playing with the set and gain til you reach the desired psi. Now this test/tuning you're doing should be in freeway gears(3rd/4th). After finding the optimal settings, run the car in 1st and 2nd to make sure your car doesn't boost spike. If it does, slowly turn down the gain til it stops. And you've just properly set your boost controller..
Sorry if all this doesn't make sense or is hard to read. Also I had a friend who had the same boost dropping problem and it ended up being a bad boost solenoid from Greddy.

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

I have it tapped into the vacuum line on the back of the intake manifold as well as the boost gauge. The boost gauge i have is called SPI. I dont know if its a good one but are there really any bad brands of boost gauges.

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

If you have the boost controller attached to the nipple on the back of the plenum, its connected wrong. You should have a line that runs to a T fitting that goes to the wastegates. The other line should go onto the nipple on the y-pipe.
If you did install the ebc incorrectly, remember to lower your settings. After fixing the problem, then redo the boost settings.

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

Oh no i have the boost controller solenoid hooked up in the right spots i have the vacuum line for the boost controller to read boost and my boost gauge tapped into the nipple on the back of the plenum. Does it matter if i have both the boost controller and my boost gauge tapped into the same spot? And so now i was racing a friends srt4 today and i noticed that i wasnt boosting 11 any more. It was more like 9 or so and when i came to an idle i noticed that my vacuum at idle was real low so i think i have a vacuum leak somewhere which kinda sucks.

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

Another question regarding a vacuum leak. What would be the best way the go about looking for one. Is there any tool that i could use to pressurize the system?

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

yeah you're gonna need a pressure tester and an air compressor for that.
How's your vaccum at idle? I would honestly just take apart your stock intercooler piping and look over the whole thing including your smic as they might have been dented or damaged. And go from there I guess..

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

Ya that was my guess. My vacuum at idle is at around 15-17 in Hg. I have seen the pressure tester on 3sx but it only pressurizes the intake pipes not the entire system. You said that ebc's dont work very well with the 3/s platform so would you recommend a mbc?

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

Not really ebc's in general but more the Greddy Profec B Spec II specifically. I have known people who successfully used them but most 3/S owners tend to stay away.
If you can't find anyone on 3si in your area to help, I would suggest calling shops and asking about pressure testing your car. Some shops add smoke to the air so you just look for smoke indicating a leak. If not, you're gonna have to listen very carefully for air escaping.

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

i havent had any issues with my greddy ebc. its the same one as ur talking about. mine is great better than my mbc i had, wont go back to a mbc, it all depends on how u set it up and making sure everything is tight fit and sealed, so u dont get any vac leaks or any thing like that bc thats when u get BC problems, i dont see how u can have problems with the ebc unless u are totaly tuning it wrong or have it set up wrong. for vac leak, listen for a slight hiss noise to try to narow down the area its coming form and just check all ur hoses on ur intake plenum. u can also take carb cleaner and lightly spray ur vac lines to help find a leak bc if the one thats leaking lets in the spray ull notice a flux in idle and u have found ur leak. ill try to get my settings for u tonight and ill try to help u out a lil bit more, but uve spent the money on the ebc so use it, dont let it go to waste. yes they are a bit hard to tune but u get more fine tuning. just keep reading the booklet, ik i had to read it a few times to make sure i knew what all the tearms were and everything b4 i started messing with mine.

Re: Greddy profec B tuning

try these setting and tell me what that gets u. this was one of my settings on my ebc i just wanna see if u get the same boost as i do with that setting. then ill help from there. SET 50% GAIN 31% and Make sure SETGAIN is 50. i think it should be but just make sure, then i have warn at 14.9 and lower set at 10% just to make sure that if anything spikes it pulls it down. try that tell me what that gets u.
