Parking brake sticking?

Hey All,
The GF's PT Cruiser has a problem.

After being parked, when restarted the rear brakes make a horrible grinding noise whenever applied. After a few miles problem disappears. Doesn't return until the car has been parked again.

Could be related to the parking/emergency brake?
Any other suggestions?
